I think I have solved the mystery of why I got 'blonde roots' after submitting my tresses to the hair conditioning treatment
Cassia obovata. My research has unearthed some interesting facts about it that I would like to share with everyone. Cassia is the dried powdered leaf of the 'senna italica' plant and is currently used in medicine as a laxative. It was traditionally grown along the river Nile but is now found in many regions around the northwestern Indian Ocean. It is also known as 'neutral henna' because it is used as a hair treatment with effects similar to henna but without the red colour. Cassia makes damaged hair silky, thick, lustrous, and helps keep the scalp healthy, just as henna does. The active component is an anthraquinone derivative called chrysophanic acid, which is also found in higher concentrations in rhubarb root.
This has a golden yellow dye molecule, but it won't show up on your hair unless you are very pale blond or grey. Cassia will not make dark hair golden. Cassia will make grey or blond hair golden. That is why it only showed up on my new grey unhennaed roots. Does this make it a100% natural hair dye to cover greying blonde hair? I would really like to know. Any volunteers?
